Abstract

|
We experienced 6 cases of recurrent ventricular ¢¥septal defect after total correction of tetralogy of Fallot from 1972 to 1980. Four were male and two female.Their ages ranged from 2 to 22 years. Majoritiy of the patients had exertional dyspnea or frequent URI after primary total correction except one case. They had systolic murmur and they also had thrills. At cardiac catheterization their pulmonary artery pressure were increased and Qp/Qs were above 1. 3 : 1.
Reoperation was performed sucessfully by transventricular approach without mortality.Time intervals between the Ist operation and the 2nd operation were 5 to 14 months. Detached area of recurrent ventricular septal defect was in the postero-superior.!portion in 4 cases and postero -inferior portion in 2 cases. In 3 cases Dacron patch was used and in other cases direct suture was made by interrupted mattress sutures. Long-term follow-up revealed that they were in good conditions until 1 to 5 years after the second operation.
